Raven:
The other dimensional Demon Lord known as Trigon has existed for millenia, destroying worlds and claiming souls. He was finally stopped by three wizards;Azarath, Metreon, and Zinthos, who payed the ultimate price to do so. His soul was split into three pieces, and trapped in three different dimensions...but not before impregnating one of the warrior nuns who opposed him. The child who was named Karasu, and grew to be called Raven, uses various mystical talisman to keep Trigon in his prison, but to keep her own demonic side in check. Demonic runes appear on her skin when she taps into her demonic power.

Beast Boy:
Family members The Doom Patrol, frequently took its youngest member, Kemonomaru Meiun on missions with them. Brutally killed in front of him, his mind was fractured & he was institutionlized. During the escape attempt by another inmate, he was freed from his room and free to roam the facility. He came upon a room that had a device that was now unsecure due to the downed power grid. Upon contact, it bonded itself to his right wrist, and instantly cleared the voices in his head, and ceased his multiple personalities. He fled the facility, but was tracked by a retrieval squad. When attacked, the device activated and released a small green furred clawed animal which furiously defended the boy. His hair was also turned green upon the devices activation. He was also able to communicate with the beast mentally. Later, he would find out that the creature, which he named Sabreclaw, was the physical manifestation of one of his alters from his multiple personalty disorder. the device allows him to mix and match genetic, elemental and cybernetic traits, psionically fueled by the former alters. The beasts also have differing evolutionary states.
Beast Boy's beasts are based on xmen and pokemon characters.
Sabreclaw is a mix of xman Wolverine and Pikachu. Snapdrake is a mix of Nightcrawler and charmander.

Starfire:
Princess Koriand'r and her people are nomadic survivors of Trigon's last rampage which left her planet decimated. She hooks up with Raven to help prevent the demon"s resurrection. She has been very sheltered as a princess, but is a fierce warrior. Once she meets the Batclan shinobi, Nightwing, she believes him to be her soulmate, and begins to persue him.
